The most reliable washing machine brand in the UK is Bosch — the highest average reliability of any brand we track (81), built on a mid-range and premium range. Samsung (81) and LG (80) follow within a point, and both score higher on the overall WAC Score — so if you want features and value alongside reliability, they are the better all-round machines. We rank on reliability first; the table also shows how consistently each brand delivers, and how good its machines are overall.

The most reliable washing machine brands, ranked

We scored more than 500 freestanding washing machines using over 430,000 verified owner reviews, then averaged the reliability score of every currently available model, brand by brand. Reliability leads this table. Beside it sit two supporting signals: a dependability figure, which adjusts a brand’s reliability for how consistently it delivers across its whole range, and the average WAC Score, which tells you how good the machines are overall once features, efficiency and value are weighed in.

How to read this table

Read reliability first — it is the ranking. But two brands can share an average and still feel very different to own, which is what the other two columns capture. Dependability adjusts the average for consistency: a brand whose machines cluster tightly keeps its score, while one propped up by a couple of strong models is marked down, because you are more likely to land on one of its weaker machines. It is a check on the average, not a replacement for it — a brand with a broad, varied range, like LG spanning budget to nearly £1,000, can score a shade lower here than a narrow, uniform one without being the worse brand. The average WAC Score is the third signal: where a brand trails on reliability but leads on WAC, its machines are simply better all round — more features, better efficiency, keener value. That is exactly the story at the top: Bosch wins on reliability, but Samsung and LG sit just behind it and score higher on WAC, which makes them the better overall machines for most buyers.

A note on Miele

One name deserves a caveat. Miele sits mid-pack here, at an average reliability of 77 — behind Bosch, Samsung, LG and several others — which surprises people given its reputation. That figure is honest, but it reflects how the score is built: from verified owner reviews, which capture how a machine performs in its early years. Our reliability score only ranks on the review data we can verify; it does not attempt to quantify the twenty-year lifespan and full repairability that are Miele’s real premium, and on that measure its reputation stands as strongly as ever. If you are buying a machine to keep for two decades, Miele’s case is undiminished; if you are judging on review-based reliability today, several brands score higher for less.

Which brand leads at each price

Under £400: Samsung posts the strongest reliability of any full-range brand, with Hisense the leading budget specialist just behind. For the full breakdown, see our most reliable budget brands guide.

£400 to £649: Bosch and Samsung lead the mid-range reliability table, with Bosch the more basic of the two on features. Our most reliable mid-range brands guide has the complete ranking.

£650 and above: LG and Haier lead on reliability, both undercutting the traditional premium marques on price. See our most reliable premium brands guide for the full picture.

Frequently asked questions

Which washing machine brand is most reliable in the UK?

On average reliability, Bosch — it posts the highest figure of any brand we track (81), though it concentrates on mid-range and premium machines. Samsung (81) and LG (80) follow within a point and score higher on the overall WAC Score, making them the better all-round machines. If you are shopping a specific budget the leaders shift: under £400 Samsung leads among full-range brands with Hisense the top budget specialist; between £400 and £649 Bosch and Samsung lead; above £650 LG and Haier lead.

Is Bosch a reliable washing machine brand?

Yes — Bosch has the highest average reliability of any brand in our data (81), with a strong, consistent floor. The one caveat is where it competes: Bosch concentrates on mid-range and premium machines and fields very little under £400, so its record is built on dearer models rather than budget ones.

Is Miele worth the price?

On our review-based reliability score, Miele sits mid-pack at 77 — behind Bosch, Samsung, LG and others, several of which cost less. But that score is built from owner reviews of early-life performance and does not attempt to quantify the twenty-year lifespan and repairability that are Miele’s real premium. If you are buying to keep a machine for two decades, Miele’s case stands; if you are judging on review-based reliability today, other brands score higher for less.

Are Hisense washing machines reliable?

Yes — Hisense is the most reliable brand built around the budget band, with an average reliability of 78 delivered consistently across a wide range. It leads the budget specialists and competes on reliability with far pricier names, which is a large part of why it also owns some of the best-value machines on the site.

Is Samsung or LG better for washing machines?

On reliability they are almost level — Samsung edges it at 81 to LG’s 80. LG carries a slightly higher average WAC Score and the widest range, from budget to premium; Samsung competes reliably across all three price bands too. Both are strong, dependable choices; the decision usually comes down to the specific model and price rather than a meaningful brand gap.

Which washing machine brand has the least problems?

By average reliability, Bosch (81) — and its dependability figure, which rewards brands whose reliability holds up consistently across the whole range rather than resting on a few strong models, confirms it is a low-risk choice. Samsung is its near-equal and does it while competing at every price point, which makes Samsung the safest bet if you also want budget options.
